Vinticuffs is holds three objectives to it's core purpose.
To archive data, files, and important information
This desire was spurned by the original FileFront/FilePlanet scare of shutting down and potentially losing all of the unique custom created content stored there. There's no such thing as too many mirrors in my opinion for preserving the history of the software we support, especially since the future of these hosts are still rocky.
To play these games together again!
Digital distribution is one of the main ways PC gamers are obtaining titles these days, and due to the ease of placing something on a market for sale, many publishers are either using their licenses or obtaining them and we see something being re-released every now and again. Some of these titles are reworked to work well on modern computers by providing new systems, integrating ports, or restructuring their multiplayer systems to be more accessible. Though many people are into the "now" and the population of a game dwindles over time sometimes making it harder to find people to play with.
Additionally, this is a good time to mention that Vinticuffs has no intention of being a core community itself for these titles. The idea is to provide a singular area for all current and future groups to share their events, and promote their causes. We do not aim to be competition for other established communities, and would like to hear from you how to better cooperate the idea of unity without losing identity whilst promoting a friendly envirionment for newcomers and veterans alike.
To emphasize community engagement
Vinticuffs itself is not - at this exact moment - involved in content creation of any sort aside from the main website itself. That means that the site is community curated and moderated. You can think of it as your generic social network site - you create your account (or lurk) and have access to a wide selection of information. In the long run, you'll want to subscribe and involve yourself with the content and activities of your choosing.
Eventually, once the dust has settled and things are progressing at a positive rate - there may be additional development projects for more Vinticuffs oriented content.
It's not absurd to expect all members to be fully aware of the basics of online etiquette, and as such, we will not delve too deep into the basics. You know what trolling and flaming is; so don't do it. We have no desire to corral you around like kindergartners and will not hesitate to push disciplinary action against highly disruptive and aggressive behavior.
With that said, we do have three (3) extremely core guidelines that must be followed by all members.
Be respectful to others
Goes directly hand in hand with no trolling, flaming, harassing, bullying, etc. This also brings up that Vinticuffs is a gaming community and not a platform for hot current topics such as religion, politics, and the like. It’s one thing to have actual conversation, versus attacking one another for holding different beliefs. It is expected that you engage in critical thinking when participating in these conversations - provided they even show up.
If you do have a problem with another member - you can either attempt to contact them directly to rectify the situation via personal/direct messaging on-site, Discord, or however you choose. If the aggressor is still proving to be harmful to your experience - reach out to a moderator.
No Pornography
While the target audience of Vinticuffs is 18+, pornography with no context has no place here.
No Warez / Illegal Content
There will be licensing issues due to the sporadic digital nature of gaming today. Though do not link torrents or downloads for content. There’s a handful of situations where we will bear the burden of hosting specific things (such as official IWADs and a few other things).
Now with that said; we want to touch base again on #1 and #2 because of the nature of Vinticuffs and archiving content. We are fully aware that there’s content created that goes against these rules - and we will be accepting them and their files onto the website.
These areas will be opt-in marked with either a NSFW (pornographic, vulgar, etc) and/or a NSFL (excessive violence, racism, etc) overlay and will require you to specifically enable your account to view and interact with them.
On these entries profiles, we expect the same conduct to be applied as the rest of the site.
Failure to comply with our basic guidelines is grounds for muting or straight up banning. These are very simple and there's no exceptions for violations.
